Dr. Thomas Truskett is College’s outstanding engineering teacher

December 1, 2005

Chemical Engineer Thomas Truskett won the College-wide Award for Outstanding Engineering Teaching by an Assistant Professor.

The award is meant to “promote and encourage exceptional teaching in a faculty member’s early career.”

According to testimony from his students, Truskett is known for a passionate approach to teaching and research, and he goes to great lengths to help students reach their goals. He teaches four courses in chemical engineering, two of which he developed himself. A National Science Foundation CAREER Award supports the development of these new courses.

Students say Truskett always hunts for real-world examples to help them understand complex concepts. He learns students’ first names, and attempts to personalize his lessons according to their needs.
