Background

Brandon Slaughter is originally from Dallas, Texas. He received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering with High Honors from The University of Texas at Austin in May 2006. Brandon’s diverse undergraduate research included designing a computer simulation for two-phase convective heat transfer in microgravity environments and studying triggered-release of therapeutics from polymeric nanospheres. Prior to his time at The University of Texas, Brandon served for six years in the United States Navy as a nuclear propulsion plant operator and electrician. He supervised the distribution of electric power from a nuclear power plant to an operating aircraft carrier during operations in the Persian Gulf. Following his naval service, he worked for Lam Research as a Field Engineer in plasma etching and chemical-mechanical planarization (CMP) for semiconductor fabrication. Brandon joined the Peppas lab as a graduate student to pursue a PhD in Biomedical Engineering in the fall of 2006.
