Recognized as an outstanding early-career scientist making significant contributions to the field of chemical biology.

Assistant Professor Brian Belardi has been named the recipient of the 2026 SynthX Texas Chemical Biology Young Investigator Award.

This award recognizes outstanding early-career scientists making significant contributions to the field of chemical biology. Dr. Belardi’s research focuses on engineering molecular systems that can precisely control biological interactions, with applications in designing tunable biomaterials and advancing our understanding of cellular mechanics.

In 2023, Belardi was awarded the prestigious David and Lucille Packard Foundation Fellowship for his work in understanding the molecular underpinnings of cell adhesions that drive everything from organ building to maintaining physiological homeostasis which is key to developing new technologies to manipulate and harness their structure for therapeutic benefit.

Dr. Belardi will deliver a lecture at the 2026 Texas Chemical Biology Conference hosted at Texas A&M University in May titled, Probing Membrane Structures from the Inside-Out for Epithelial Biology Discovery and Therapeutic Delivery.
