New Project Consultation
Shop staff offer consultation on student projects. Students need to email butch@che.utexas.edu to set up an appointment in CPE 1.402 during consultation hours.
Students need to bring detailed sketches done on an AutoCad program or graphing paper using English Units. AutoCad is available for free through the university Information Technology Services. Students should place comprehensive thought into all designs and use appropriate materials for sketches. If project machining needs exceed 10 hours, external assistance may be necessary. Contact these local vendors for materials and hardware.
Repairs
Repair requests are also made by appointment during consultation hours. If repairs needed surpass the shop’s capabilities, shop staff will refer students to a trained service technician for further assistance.
Other Resources
Students can make use of machining equipment in the Mechanical Engineering Shop located in ETC 1.210 upon completing a four hour shop certification provided by the shop supervisor.
