NAMS Annual Meeting Student Travel Awards

The NAMS Annual Meeting Student Travel Awards are presented annually to outstanding young individuals who are just beginning work in the membrane area. This includes undergraduates and graduate students within the first 2 years of their graduate program. Priority will be given to applicants who have not received any prior financial assistance from NAMS. Each Annual Meeting Student Travel Award will provide up to $1000 reimbursement for reasonable expenses associated with attending the Annual meeting (for example, travel costs, registration, and/or workshops), and a free one-year membership in NAMS. Applicants must be nominated for the Annual Meeting Student Travel Award by a current member of NAMS.

Application Materials: (submitted as PDF or MS Word-compatible electronic files)

  1. one-page nomination letter (submitted by NAMS member),
  2. one-page resume describing nominee’s education and work experience, and
  3. one-page letter written by nominee describing his/her interest in membrane science & technology.

Application Deadlines and Review:

Application packages must be received by March 1, 2007 (emailed to Ingo Pinnau, ipin@mtrinc.com). Applications will be reviewed by a panel of reviewers appointed by the Board of Directors of the North American Membrane Society. Award decisions will be made by March 15, 2007.

Review criteria will include:

  1. how effectively this Award would support the overall objectives of NAMS,
  2. the applicant’s resume and overall qualifications,
  3. the applicant’s demonstrated interest in membrane science and technology, and
  4. the long-term impact that the Award will have on the applicant's future career path.

All decisions by the panel are final. We expect to be able to give up to 5 Annual Meeting Student Travel Awards for the 2007 meeting in Orlando, Florida, May 12-16, 2007. The actual number funded will depend on funds available. Questions regarding the NAMS Annual Meeting Student Travel Award or application procedure should be addressed to:
