Nomination Process

  1. Anyone can nominate a candidate, including the candidate himself.
  2. Nominations must be sent to Prof. R. E. Riman via email: riman@rci.rutgers.edu, use "ISHA Awards" as the subject header.

ISHA Lifetime Achievement Award

The ISHA Lifetime Achievement Award for a senior scientist requires a 1-page statement (PDF files only, single spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman) by the nominator as to why this person is a suitable candidate and a CV of the candidate (no page limit).

Professor Masahiro Yoshimura, Distinguished Chair Professor and Director of the Promotion Center for Global Materials Research at National Cheng Kung University, was awarded with the ISHA Lifetime Achievement Award at ISHA 2013. Prof. Yoshimura gave an award lecture entitled: "Feature and Future of Hydrothermal/Solvothermal Reactions for Synthesis/Preparation of Nano-Materials with Desired Shapes, Sizes and Structures."

Roy-Somiya Award

The Roy-Somiya Award for a scientist younger than 45 years of age, born January 18, 1968 or after, requires a 1-page statement (PDF files only, single spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman) by the nominator as to why this person is a suitable candidate, copies of the candidate's top 3 papers in peer-reviewed journals and/or corporate licensing of the technology, whether patented or not, and CV of the candidate (no page limit).

Professor Edward Lester of the University of Nottingham was selected as the winner of the Roy-Somiya Award for ISHA 2013. Prof. Lester presented a talk entitled "From Lab to Factory Floor" to commemorate the occasion.

ISHA Best Ph.D. Thesis Award

The ISHA Best Ph.D. Thesis Award, Ph.D. awarded January 18, 2007 or later, requires a 1-page statement (PDF files only, single spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman) by the nominator as to why this person is a suitable candidate, date Ph.D. was awarded, impact of thesis in terms of first author papers published in peer-reviewed journals and/or corporate licensing of the technology, whether patented or not, and CV of the candidate (no page limit).

Congratulations to Dr. Christina Mossaad on her selection as the winner of the ISHA Best Ph.D. Thesis Award. Christina received her Ph.D. from Rutgers University in 2009.

Graduate Student Awards

ISHA 2013 will include an award for the top two posters as judged by a panel of speakers who will then select the ISHA Gold and ISHA Silver Awards. For students to be eligible, they must submit an abstract to present at the meeting along with an indication that they would like to be considered for this award. The two winners will be honored at a special ISHA Awards Session.

Kirsten M. Ø. Jensen of Aarhus University was selected as the winner of the ISHA Gold Award while William Hardin of The University of Texas at Austin received the ISHA Silver Award. Thank you to all the students who participated!
