The department recently received official approval from the Board of Regents to name the department the John J. McKetta Jr. Department of Chemical Engineering. The official naming ceremony is taking place Thursday, November 8 at 4:30 p.m. on the CPE front lawn.
The occasion reflects generosity from hundreds of alumni and friends who have supported the Challenge for McKetta campaign since its inception in 2006. The Challenge for McKetta is an eight-year, $25 million fundraising opportunity for alumni, friends and corporate partners to help support students, faculty, facilities and programmatic excellence within the Department of Chemical Engineering for decades to come.
The campaign recently surpassed the $11 million mark which triggered the formal renaming by the Board of Regents who determined the naming should be realized within 97-year-old John McKetta’s lifetime so that he could witness the impact of his legacy.
We welcome the department to join us, along with President Powers and Cockrell School of Engineering Dean Greg Fenves, to celebrate this great achievement. We’re also celebrating the occasion at the ChE Tailgate Saturday, Nov. 10.
Ceremony Parking Directions
San Jacinto Parking Garage
The parking garage is located on the east side of San Jacinto Boulevard, south of Dean Keeton. Drive up the ramp to take a visitors ticket.
To access CPE from the garage, cross San Jacinto at the Dean Keeton intersection. Enter parking lot F25 and then enter the ECJ Building, enter through the double doors next to loading dock. Follow hallway to elevators. Take elevators to 2nd floor, exit onto Plaza, turn right and cross the pedestrian bridge. The Ceremony will take place under the tent in front of CPE.
After the ceremony, follow San Jacinto south, past the garage and then past 24th street. Enter the main door to Belmont Hall directly across from the Alumni Center, take elevators to 9th floor and the Carpenter-Winkle Room. We will validate all parking.
