Incoming Students

The department and the university provide support to ease new Longhorns into student life. Students should stop by the Graduate Office as soon as they arrive in Austin to check-in and process the required Graduate Employee Paperwork.  Every new graduate student is considered an employee of the university and is required to fill out new employment documents to receive financial support.

International students need to go to the International Office first to register with the university, and then come to the Graduate Office to process Graduate Employment Paperwork.

All graduate students need to attend the Department Orientation on Tuesday, September 4 from 1:00p.m. -3:00 p.m.

The university’s New Student Services offer lots of resources for new students, including a Bevo Bulletin explaining Longhorn jargon, or common university terms, and campus maps.  The International Office hosts orientation events for international students. Information sessions provide assistance with health insurance, employment and taxes, and U.S. law.  Social events are also part of the program.
