Scroll to the advising and registration instructions applicable to your situation and see further information relevant to all students at the bottom of the page.
Incoming U.S. and Permanent Resident Students
1. Students must have a U.S. bank account and Austin address in order to register and get advised
2. Stop by the Graduate Office during office hours (7:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.) as soon as you arrive on campus. Bring with you:
- A degree concurred transcript
- Two forms of state or federal ID (driver’s licence, social security card or passport)
3. Students will fill out all necessary registration forms in the graduate office
4. After registration paperwork is completed, students may have the opportunity to speak with the graduate advisor about courses if he is available
5. If the graduate advisor is not available, the graduate coordinator will proceed to register students online for 9 hours. Students usually take Transport, Kinetics and Thermodynamics to prepare for the Qualifying Exams in January
6. The graduate coordinator will then complete the Employment Waiver Form in order for students to receive in-state tuition. (This will provide students with health insurance for themselves only. Students may add dependants at their own expense. More information will be provided at the Departmental Orientation on August 25th).
7. Students will then login to UT Direct, while still in the graduate office, to view their fee bill. After logging in to UT Direct, students should select “My Tuition Bill” from the side bar, then select the correct semester and year (i.e. fall 2011) from the drop down menu, hit select “view my bill” and the screen will say “your registration is not complete” or “confirm attendance”. If registration is not complete the graduate coordinator will help solve the problem. If the “confirm attendance” circle is present then students must click the Confirm Attendance button in order for the system to process their paychecks.
