Over the past five years nineteen interactive computer modules have been developed to enhance the teaching of chemical engineering courses in material and energy balances, separations, and reactor design. During the five-year development process, the pedagogical expertise gained through extensive testing both at the University of Michigan and many other universities has been incorporated to ensure that the modules best address these issues in interactive computer learning:

  • Ease of use
  • Promoting learning
  • Maintaining focus on the concepts
  • Individual guidance
  • Minimal tediousness
Additional features for some modules include introduction to new technologies using graphical animations and entertaining motivators, which have been shown to increase the students interest and motivation for the module content.
